How We Worship
Since God is a spiritual being (John 4:24), and since He has shown in His Word that He may not be worshipped by images (Exodus 20:4,5), we believe that worship must be a matter of the heart and governed by the spiritual Word of God.
Therefore our worship services are guided by two fundamental rules. The first rule is quiet, sober, reverent, reflective atmosphere. In this environment, believers and their children are enabled to pay attention to the Word of God, which is designed to penetrate to the depths of the heart and reveal the hearts of all, as the place where God is to dwell, and from which He is properly worshipped (Hebrews 4:12, James 1:19-21). Attitudes, demeanor, and dress all contribute in their own way to the quietness and reverence of the worship of God in the assembly of the saints.
The second rule is that the Word of God must occupy the center of the church’s worship. In our worship services, the preaching of the Word of God is central: God declaring His good pleasure toward His covenant people by His appointed servants, as they faithfully explain and apply the Scriptures. The Psalms are sung to the Lord in His worship with organ accompaniment. The Ten Commandments are read in the morning worship service and in the afternoon the Apostle’s Creed, expressing the church’s faith in God’s Word. In the morning service the Heidelberg Catechism is expounded as a faithful summary of the teachings of Scripture.
